As a proud supporter of #GEDCO, it heartwarming to share Chinita’s success story in securing employment through GEDCO’s CARES Career Connection program. CARES Career Connection helps men and women in Baltimore City, like Chinita, to secure and retain employment. The program provides a comprehensive array of career counseling services, from job search assistance and interview preparation to job training and retention courses. Furthermore, CARES Career Connection also helps these individuals to overcome any obstacles that may serve as impediments to securing a job, such as previous criminal records, technical and computer inexperience, and more. In 2016, 118 program clients found and retained employment and 27 individuals enrolled in job training courses. Visit https://gedco.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/ to make a donation today!

SYLVIA, GEDCO’S HOMELESS SERVICES CLIENT

Spread Sylvia’s story with your network by sharing this link.

Language for Sharing on Facebook (to accompany the video link):

Chronic homelessness and lack of affordable housing is prevalent in many cities throughout the United States. The Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Human Services estimates that at least 2,800 individuals are homeless in Baltimore on any given night. Consider that when a person is being stretched to their economic limits, it’s very easy to be pushed over the edge, where someone of a moderate income might recover. Substance abuse, mental illness, death, or illness in the family, and job loss are just a few “pushes.” Temporary shelters are certainly necessary, but cannot counter the effects of homelessness and help an individual get on the road to wellness and stability. GEDCO, one of Baltimore’s most dynamic nonprofit organizations, seeks to empower men and women who were previously homeless and who may be struggling with one or more of these “pushes”, by providing permanent housing.
